The Now Project is a student-organized group which brings together, for the first time, students, scholars, alumni, and current and future Jewish leaders in partnership to discuss collaboration across denominations.
Roughly one year ago, a group of Brandeis students and leaders in the Jewish community convened in a dorm room to talk about the future.
Brandeis University is a microcosm of the greater American Jewish community, we decided, and therefore it is our responsibility to create the Jewish tomorrow we would like to see. The Now Project conference this November began conversations at Brandeis University and its surrounding communities about the future of American Judaism and our roles in creating this future as young adults, students, and emerging leaders.
We hope to increase the scale on which these conversations take place amongst Brandeis students on a daily basis and provide for the community a window into these important conversations.
The Now Project explores the common elements across differences that can make unity a reality. We will work together to embrace our diversity while building a community of the whole. What happens next?
Now that our first conference is over, The Now Project will continue to bring people together under the tent through facilitated learning and action throughout the year.
Be on the lookout for The Now Project's Day of Social Action at 'DEIS Impact!: Sunday, February 2nd, 2014, and then stay tuned for a conversation with scholar Yehuda Kurtzer. These are just two of many events we hope to facilitate between this year's conference and the next one.
We believe we are not only the future, but the present, and today we create the Jewish tomorrow.
